Summer of Sinking.... Part II

Update to Summer of Sinking...

These exclusive photos show the salvage of the Beneteau 40.7 'Barracuda' lost on a delivery from the Chicago YC's Race to Mackinac...

My good friend Doug just happens to have a cottege only a stone's throw from these pics, and he even assisted the salvage crew by shutteling them between the keel location and boat...

Kinda looks like a big beached whale getting pet by a diver. Ouch. What is the story?

Going into a shallow channel with big waves behild... Bounced on the keel until it lost it on the channel... Tug pulled loose boat off channel wall and ended up sinking on the beach...

Ouch is right..

Looks like either the engine fell off its mounts pulling the saildrive up through the hull or it was bashed up.

Looked like a channel issue as they were able to salvage the keel from the shallows.

Well, at least she is an "off the rack" boat. Insurance can adequate compensate as she is not unique. No consolation to the owners, I'm sure.

I suppose I have one sinking in me, someday. It happens to the best of us. Let's just hope it is before I have enough money for a Farr, Swan, Alden, Baltic or my Perini Navi ;-)

Engine is in tact... just got the saildrive unit tangled up with debris (see rope around prop) while trying to motor off the sandbar.

Four years ago, the interior of the channel read 11.8 feet while I was delivering my boat to Chicago for the Mac race.

Sad ending for the 'cuda.
